Electronics Scotland - Representing Scotland's Electronics Industry

Optoelectronic Technologies for Oil & Gas apllications
by Gerry Watt (27 April 2010)
Call for papers for this years technical meeting on 4th November
Co-sponsored by: FMC Technologies, Society of Underwater Technology (SUT), National Subsea Research Institute (NSRI), Scottish Optoelectronics Association (SOA) & Institute of Physics, Instrument Science and Technology Group (ISAT).

Call for Contributions

Optoelectronics technologies are increasingly being incorporated into oil and gas industry systems to generate and communicate the information required for production optimisation, enhanced oil recovery, extending field lifetimes and future intelligent oil field systems. Recent years has, for example, seen a major growth in the utilisation of optical fibres for subsea communications and downhole monitoring. Other areas in which optoelectronic technologies are being adopted include subsea inspection, leak detection, structural integrity and topside process monitoring. This second Optoelectronic Technologies For the Oil and Gas Industry technical meeting will address a broad range of optoelectronic technology developments relevant to current and future oil and gas industry applications. The ability of optoelectronics to facilitate real operational and commercial benefits as well as lessons learned will also be addressed. The breadth of optoelectronic technologies relevant to the oil and gas industry will be reflected in sessions covering optoelectronics for Downhole, Subsea and Surface applications. The meeting will provide Oil and Gas industry professionals, along with technology developers and providers, the opportunity to keep abreast of developments in this rapidly expanding technology area, as well as allowing networking with academics, researchers and industry professionals active in the area.

Contributions for 20min presentations are now being sought. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to the application of optoelectronics to:

Production monitoring and optimisation
Increased oil recovery
Subsea processing
Flow assurance
Subsea communications
Subsea trees, manifolds and structures
High Pressure High Temperature
Sensor networks
Reservoir monitoring
Inspection, maintenance and repair

Contributors are invited to submit a brief summary of the proposed presentation (max 200 words) by 31st July 2010 to: Marcella Campbell E: marcella.campbell@intl.fmcti.com
